At Meadow Lane, the Magpies produced arguably their most convincing display so far this season. A flurry of goals in the second half, inspired by certain substitutes, produced a much more appealing scoreline.

It's fair to say that Notts have been going through the motions for the most part so far under head coach Paterson, who has had to deal with a lot of personnel changes while being new to the club himself this summer.

He has been searching for more fluidity and attacking intent from his team and he eventually got that against Crawley in one of the more satisfying afternoons of his early tenure.
