Police believe missing maternity data file was 'intentionally' deleted

SENSITIVE data relating to a review into baby deaths at Nottingham hospitals was most likely deleted “maliciously”, a police investigation has found.

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH), which runs the Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital, is currently subject to the largest maternity review in NHS history following dozens of baby deaths and injuries.

In February, Nottinghamshire Police launched an investigation into the temporary loss of a computer file in July 2024. The file was created by an NUH employee after a coroner found discrepancies in the number of cases that should have been provided to the review.

The data, which was recovered days later, is understood to have including details of some baby deaths. Around 2,300 families who are part of the independent maternity review were provided with an update on Tuesday, June 10.
