Mushy peas please! You can't have Goose Fair without them

IT wouldn't be Goose Fair without mushy peas and mint sauce.

A Nottingham tradition, there are several stalls selling them, but only one does it the proper old-fashioned way from scratch.

"No tinned peas 'ere me duck" is the catchphrase at the Traditional Mushy Pea Stall, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.

The original and the best, it started at the end of the war in 1945. Now it's an institution on any self-respecting fair visitor's must-do list.

Alf Burdett and his friend Walter Pike started the stall, with Alf's son Terry later taking the reins. Now there's Nottingham-born-and-bred William Warwick at the helm.
