BUSINESSES SLAM DISRUPTION THAT'S 'COSTING THOUSANDS'

- By EVIE KNIGHT & JOEL MOORE

Months of roadworks 'destroying livelihoods'

BUSINESS owners say they are losing thousands of pounds as customer numbers fall because of roadworks that have dragged on for months on a main road.

Thousands of motorists have been delayed on down Mansfield Road at Daybrook. The A60 route is known for being one of the busiest routes in and out of Nottingham.

Cadent Gas's plans to replace pipes along large sections of road were always going to cause traffic problems. But local businesses including shops, pubs and takeaways have all fallen victim to varying extents.

"It's cost us thousands and it shows in the figures," said Adrian Rowley, owner of Dayclear Lighting.

He said he hardly saw any customers during the month-long phase when Thackeray's Lane was closed.

"Compensation is needed, especially if so many other businesses are saying they're struggling too.

"We have definitely had more than a 60% reduction [in sales]. It's destroying people's livelihoods."
