Menace motorcyclists wreck golfing greens

A NOTTINGHAM golf club had to close for the day after it was vandalised by motorcyclists, costing hundreds of pounds.

Steve Wells, manager at Bulwell Forest Golf Club, has spoken of his devastation after finding the greens wrecked when he got back from a holiday yesterday morning.

The 40-year-old said that a number of incidents have taken place on the golf course in recent months, which included a rider brandishing a machete at Mr Wells.

He said: “It’s devastating. I love my job and you want visitors and members to turn up and enjoy the course.

“When you work so hard to make the greens look as good as they do and within 30 minutes or so, they're devastated and the damage is worth thousands of pounds, it really hurts.

“The repairs will be well over £2,000 worth of damage. We've had this three or four times in two years. It’s costing the golf course a lot of money.

“I've had a machete pulled out on me in September when I challenged a rider on the golf course. The day after, the motorbikes came on again early in the evening and one of the members approached them. He was run over, beaten and put in hospital.”
