A WOMAN-beater got on top of his partner and repeatedly punched her face before demanding she not tell the police.

- By MARTIN NAYLOR

The victim was lying in bed when she was attacked by Waheed Barakzai who, after carrying out the assault, stripped her naked “to get rid of evidence” and snatched her phone from her.

The 27-year-old attacker's victim said that after the incident, she took taxis rather than walk in fear she might come across him. Now he has been forbidden from contacting her in any way for the next five years.

Handing him a nine-month jail term, suspended for 18 months, Judge Stuart Rafferty KC said: "Domestic violence is a terrible thing. People in their own homes with the people they love, expecting them to love them, are betrayed.

"You had been in a relationship with this lady for some time. You had been on holiday abroad together, and she is entitled to be expected to be treated with courtesy.
