A NOTTINGHAM driver who struck a pedestrian and sent him flying into the road has been banned from the roads for his criminal actions.

A trial heard how Israr Iqbal “swerved in the direction” of Arfan Alyas, leaving him with multiple injuries and two metal plates in his face.

The 30-year-old denied that his driving amounted to either dangerous or careless driving.

And having heard of the evidence, a jury took less than two hours to clear him of the more serious causing serious injury by dangerous driving. But the eight men and four women convicted him of a lesser charge of serious injury by careless driving.

Handing the chartered surveyor a 12-month disqualification and ordering him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and to pay £3,000 towards to prosecution’s costs, Judge James Sampson said: “The public expect to see that someone causing that amount of injury to someone as a result of their driving to be taken off the roads.”
