BOSS OF NEW OPERATOR VOWS BRIGHT FUTURE FOR BRANCHES
THE boss of a company taking on three Nottingham libraries has insisted they will have a “new lease of life” after a row over book-borrowing becoming self-service.
Campaigners found it “very concerning” that historic libraries in Aspley, Basford and Bilborough will no longer deliver a statutory service when Nottingham City Council hands them over.
The sites could have been closed altogether if it were not for Advance Nottingham, formerly known as Castle Cavendish, taking them on.
David Brennan, the firm's chief executive, said: “With our knowledge, experience and expertise, I believe that we can save the three library buildings from closure.
“I believe that we can renovate them so that they are once again 'fit for purpose'.
“I believe that we can work with the city council on making sure the current arrangements, such a book-borrowing service and free IT provision, is continued to be delivered.
“I believe that we can work with local residents, community groups and key stakeholders to ensure that the buildings respond to local need and priorities.
