'Lesser seen' EMA cargo hub will 'bring in billions' for region

EAST Midlands Airport's boss says its "lesser seen side" could bring billions of pounds into the region over the coming years as the site celebrates a milestone anniversary.
The airport, which opened on the site of RAF Castle Donington, began operations on April 2, 1965.
A special event was held at the airport last Wednesday to celebrate 60 years of operation.
"It's a very privileged moment, but also it's very exciting for all of our colleagues and staff that work here today and those who have worked here in the past to really celebrate a very proud moment," said Steve Griffiths, the airport's managing director.
The county and city councils of Derbyshire, Derby, Leicestershire, Leicester, Nottinghamshire and Nottingham first purchased the airfield in 1963 for £37,500.
