Largest ever backlog of people waiting to start cancer treatment

HUNDREDS of cancer patients spent more than 62 days waiting after referral for their treatment under a Nottingham hospital trust, recent figures show.

The figures were released as part of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust's (NUH) board papers for the upcoming meeting with hospital officials today.

At the start of October, a backlog of more than 650 people was waiting more than 62 days to start cancer treatment after their referral, and the trust said the backlog was “the largest it has been”.

However, the most recent figures show a decrease in the backlog, with numbers shrinking to 555 patients by mid-November due to changes made at the trust.
