Jobs and services at risk as NHS targets £280m in cuts

NHS bosses in Nottinghamshire have warned of a “considerable impact” on their workforce as they aim to make £280 million in cuts within a year.

The body that helps deliver healthcare across the city and county said it could not rule out changes to frontline services as it stares into the huge financial black hole.

The Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) - also known as NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire - said the “significant challenges” were due to rising demand, inflation and increased operational costs across system partners.

It has to save £280 million over the next year, about 7 per cent of its £4 billion annual costs, which includes nationally mandated services and locally commissioned activity.

This includes a £97 million deficit at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH), which runs the Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital, where bosses have proposed cutting 430 jobs.
