'It's disgusting. This is absolutely shambolic'

WHY HAS PARK BEEN ALLOWED TO BECOME A DUMPING GROUND?

- By LOUIS CORBETT

A CITY park has become a forgotten wasteland blighted by illegally dumped waste.

Residents say it’s normal to see mounds of rubbish and debris when they enter Bulwell Hall Park and Merlin Park.

Green spaces around Nottingham are usually regularly cleaned and maintained, but the Bulwell site appears to have been forgotten about.

When I visited yesterday morning to check the site and talk to residents, it was evident this was a place that had been left to itself.

While the private golf course on the site had been kept neat and tidy, anywhere outside its boundary was a dumping ground.

Fly-tipping is not new to the park’s neighbours.

It has been a problem for years, and not much has been done about it, except the odd clear-up from Nottingham City Council.

Carrie White, of Hucknall, said: “When I parked up, I saw it, and I thought this is absolutely shambolic.

“To be honest, some areas are spick and span - around near the golf club, there is no problem - but I walked around the other parts of the park, and it’s disgusting.

“There are fires everywhere, I've seen e-bikes, beer bottles, and people dumping stuff.

“It’s disgusting. Society is backwards - there needs to be people fighting for what's right.

“Overall, we have really privileged grounds, but why do people abuse them? They create eyesores.”

Park user Chris Nigels, 36, said: “I come probably once a week or so, there are new dumping grounds wherever you go in the park, and the big open space is brilliant for playing with my dog.

“I wouldn't go anywhere near it now that it’s looking like that.

“Nothing gets done.

“People need to get their act together - it just ruins the place for everyone else.
