MUM 'STILL IN PAIN' AFTER WOMB WAS RIPPED DURING CHILDBIRTH

- By JOEL MOORE

A MUM says she has been left in lifelong pain and unable to have children after her womb was ripped during childbirth.

Jenna Smyth was put in an induced coma and had almost 20 blood transfusions after giving birth to her twin daughters at Nottingham City Hospital in 2018.

The 40-year-old said the traumatic experience had "ruined my life", describing how she still deals with bouts of severe pain and flashbacks.

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) apologised to Ms Smyth for her experience and said it was reviewing her case.

Ms Smyth, from Colwick, fell pregnant with her "miracle babies" after several rounds of IVF, having been diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.

During her pregnancy she suffered with hyperemesis, a severe sickness, and was admitted to hospital after not drinking for two days.

"I was being sick 30 times a day. I couldn't keep food down, couldn't drink water. It was really horrible," she recalled.

On the day of her planned caesarean section, July 10, 2018, Ms Smyth said it took the anaesthetist five attempts to carry out an epidural, leaving her with "excruciating pain" down her leg. Upon their delivery, one of the twins was rushed to the intensive care unit and Ms Smyth was in severe pain.

"It felt like someone was constantly stabbing me in the stomach with a knife. I was begging for help and screaming in pain. It was unbearable," she said.
