Hire bike parking could be increased to prevent dumping on pavements

THE number of places to park Nottingham's rented e-bikes could be increased after the vehicles caused a “nightmare” for pedestrians when several were dumped on a pavement.

Both Nottingham City Council and the operator of the scheme claim there has been a “massive uptake” of the e-bikes, and that many existing parking bays are becoming overcrowded.

A picture sent to the Post on Saturday November 22 showed several Lime e-bikes dumped around a full parking bay on Canal Street outside Canalside House, where temporary hoardings have already reduced the size of the pavement.

The man who took the picture said: "It's a nightmare. It does seem to be an increasing problem, and nobody seems to be doing anything about it.

"It was just about passable for most pedestrians, but if you had a pushchair or you were in a wheelchair, you'd have to go out onto the cycle lane."
