High-speed chase driver jailed

THIEF TRIED TO EVADE THE POLICE IN A STOLEN CAR

A THIEF stole a car from outside a garage and led police on a high-speed chase down residential streets.

A judge told Daniel Bald he could have killed a child if one had run out in front of the stolen Audi as it careered around Bestwood and Top Valley.

CCTV played at Nottingham Crown Court showed the 37-year-old collide with railings during what one officer called “some of the worst driving I have ever seen”.

The chase only came to an end when he jumped from the moving car and tried to run off before being caught by a police dog handler nearby.

Jailing the defendant, of Gedling, for 18 months, Recorder Luke Blackburn said: “The driving you did was appalling. What is clear from the video recording is that it is almost all through residential areas and goes on for almost a quarter of an hour.
