Hennessey a hit on both sides of A52
Nottingham Post
|August 15, 2025
THERE are not many players who have shone on both sides of the A52 but Terry Hennessey was one of them.
-
Nottingham Forest and Derby County are at home this weekend and Hennessey will be remembered by both clubs to mark his death last week, at the age of 82.
The defender, who also played wing-half for the Rams, was a member of the 1971-72 League title winning side under Brian Clough after moving to the Baseball Ground from Forest, where he had been captain.
Hennessey made over 180 appearances for Forest between 1965 and 1970.
He had been a dominant figure at the City Ground and it was a surprise to see Forest let him go to their near-neighbours.
His career was interrupted and then ended by injuries to his knees and an Achilles tendon.
He surpassed 400 League appearances for three different clubs after his career started with Birmingham City in 1959, where he made 178 appearances for the Blues and scored three goals, before joining Forest in 1965, where he soon became skipper.
