Guardians' bid to save the Nottingham crocus

SPRING FLOWER THAT WAS ONCE A TOURIST ATTRACTION IS NOW IN STEEP DECLINE
TEAMS in Nottingham are embarking on a mission to save a flower named after the city.
The Nottingham crocus, a delicate lilac flower with a spring and autumn variety, once covered the city, even becoming a Victorian tourist attraction.
Yet, as the city has grown, and with a decrease in natural habitats, the population of the flower has decreased drastically.
Prior to 2003, the Nottingham Spring Crocus has been recorded in 24 one-kilometre squares in Nottinghamshire. This has decreased over time, to just ten squares between 2014-2023.
In the past, the flower used to flourish in the Trent Valley and fields in The Meadows.
