Grant is relishing fight for places as Magpies take off

MIDFIELDER BATTLING TO STAY AS A NOTTS STARTER

COMPETITION for places is fuelling stronger performances for Notts County from the perspective of midfielder Conor Grant, who himself is in a tough fight for a starting spot.

The 24-year-old has had to be patient for League Two starts under head coach Martin Paterson but has been in from the opening in the last two matches against Swindon Town and Cambridge United.

As part of the retained core from last season, Grant had to prove himself again to the new boss Paterson.

It is often said in football, however, that competition is beneficial for the squad environment and for performances, as players push each other for starting spots and improve.

“There's a lot of quality in the squad) said Grant.

“I'm no different to everyone else in terms of wanting to play every minute of every game but it is obviously very good to have the competition in the squad.
