Get ready to paint the town green on St Patrick's Day

An Irish bar decorated for St. Patrick's Day.

NOTTINGHAM pubs are stocking up Guinness and whiskey ready for one of the biggest days of the year.

Revellers will be painting the town green on St Patrick's Day on Tuesday, the annual day honouring the patron saint of Ireland.

A daylong celebration, now in its 27th year, will be staged in Old Market Square, with entertainment from 11am to 5pm.

It's also a huge day for the city's Irish bars. Leading the way is Raglan Road, where the craic kicks off at noon and continues until 2am. The fun includes face-painting, live Irish music, DJs, and Irish dancers.

Voted one of the top 10 Irish bars in Britain, it claims to be the only Irish pub in the world with its own "real life Irish leprechaun, Punjabi Paddy" aka Binde Johal, who played a goblin caroler in the 2004 film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
