RAILWAY-THEMED PUB NOW OFFICIALLY BEST IN COUNTY

- By LYNETTE PINCHESS

IT’S full steam ahead for the Final Whistle after the pub was crowned the best in the county by real ale campaigners.

The unique pub in Southwell has a railway theme, with a mock station in the beer garden.

In the annual Newark the Campaign For Real Ale (Camra) pub of the year competition, watering holes are judged on the quality of beer and cider as well as service, welcome, décor, cleanliness and value for money.

The Final Whistle, which went through to the county competition as Newark’s winner, beat pubs from Nottingham, North Notts, Mansfield and the Vale of Belvoir.

At the pub in Station Road, drinkers will always find ten real ales on tap, plus six ciders and a range of craft beers. As well as local brews, there's a chance to sample beers from all over the country.

Owner Oliver Brown, who runs the Everards pub with partner Jo Hultum, said: "We've won Newark district pub of the year seven times. Each time we get put through into Nottinghamshire, but we've never won it up until now. It’s an amazing achievement."
