Festival to be renamed after plea from Pride's organisers

AN EVENTS company has agreed to change the name of its summer LGBTQ+ festival after pressure from the organisers of Nottingham's annual Pride march.

The vice-chair of the Nottinghamshire Pride charity asked the company that runs Nottingham Pride Fest on the same day (July 25) as the march, to change the event's name.

In response to an open letter, Live Republic confirmed it will rename its event Pride Fest Live.

Live Republic and Groovebox have run the ticketed event at outdoor venue Binks Yard, in the Island Quarter, since 2024, with the likes of Gok Wan and H from Steps heading past lineups.

But ahead of this year’s event, tickets for which start at £16.75, Nottinghamshire Pride issued an open letter calling on the organisers to change the festival's “misleading” name.

Craig Martin, vice-chair of Nottinghamshire Pride, said the decision would come as a relief to the city’s LGBTQ+ community.

“Our values have been consistent throughout - Nottingham Pride must remain free to attend and inclusive for all,” Mr Martin said.

Sight of feasting otter is a sign of healthy fish stocks

THE return of otters from near extinction is a true conservation success story, so I find the level of ire directed towards them after we recently shared a couple of video clips of an otter at Attenborough Nature Reserve rather disheartening.
