REPORTED REDUNDANCIES BRANDED ‘A SAD LOSS’ BY RESIDENTS

REPORTED redundancies of key country park workers have been branded a “sad loss” with fears a park’s condition will worsen.
Residents who use Bestwood Country Park were shocked by a post in its “Friends of” Facebook group revealing that two “backbone” maintenance staff, who have worked there since 1986, are being made redundant by Nottinghamshire County Council.
According to the post, two brothers have helped maintain the country park’s paths, trees and roads for nearly 40 years.
The post called the brothers “the backbone” and “guardians” of the park.
It added: “Their knowledge of every tree, path and comer of the park is irreplaceable. The worst part? They won't be replaced.
“What happens to our park now? Who's going to know when the paths need clearing, which trees need attention, or spot problems before they become dangerous?
