Decision is due on student flats plan

PLANS to demolish a building behind Nottingham’s Victoria Centre and replace it with hundreds of student apartments are set to be approved.
Planning officers have advised the city council’s planning committee to allow developers to tear down a warehouse in Rick Street so they can build a student housing complex that will reach up to 10 storeys in height.
The warehouse previously stored building materials used to construct other student accommodation blocks that have been built around the unit.
The proposal would provide up to 247 student bed-spaces through a combination of 37 cluster flats and 50 individual studio flats, according to planning documents.
However, despite the large scale of the planned development, the application was brought to the planning committee as developers PMI Developments Ltd and Harcourt Land and Development argue they can not afford to deliver the scheme if they have to contribute towards infrastructure improvements.
