INQUEST HEARS HE TOOK MIXTURE OF DRUGS
A FATHER has paid a heartbreaking tribute after his son was found dead in his Nottingham university bedroom.
Police were called to Nottingham Trent University-owned student accommodation on Hampden Street on October 20, 2024. Krystian Butler, 18, a first-year sociology student who was known as Krys, was found dead by officers.
An inquest into his death by coroner Nathanael Hartley at Nottingham Coroner's Court on Tuesday was told that Krys took his own life with a mixture of drugs.
A postmortem toxicology report showed Krys had alcohol in his system at a level of 110mg per 100ml of blood, with the drink drive limit being 80mg/100ml of blood.
Other drugs, including cocaine, ketamine and heroin, were also found in his body, with the cause of death given by a pathologist as “polydrug toxicity”.
The inquest heard that Krys had been smoking cannabis regularly for the past three years and used cocaine and ketamine during his time at university. He had no history of mental health issues and his body was discovered after his mother asked for a safe and well check due to Krys not responding since October 18.
