SLOCOMBE IN AFTER INJURY TO 'OUTSTANDING' BASS

VETERAN goalkeeper Sam Slocombe has been called upon in a time of need at Notts County with number one Alex Bass going down with an injury.

The injury occurred very early on in what turned out to be an important away victory for the Magpies at Grimsby Town. Slocombe came on and did what he needed to do to help his team over the line.

About going on at Blundell Park, Slocombe said: "I've not had to come on during a game too many times in my career but that was probably the best I've handled it.

"With the role I've taken this season, I expected I would play a couple of games because it's rare nowadays that one goalkeeper plays every game in a season, but you don't expect it to come that way."
