Council's new leadership to save £100k on pay
Nottingham Post
|July 05, 2025
THE pay Nottinghamshire's new Reform UK leader and top team will get has been confirmed, with the party saving over £100k on salaries.
Nigel Farage’s party swept to power at councils across the country during the May 1 local elections.
Reform gained 40 seats in Nottinghamshire, far more than the 34 needed to form a majority and run the county council. The party chose Mick Barton as leader.
Given Reform's aim to save money at councils, Councillor Barton was asked shortly after the election by the Post whether he and his colleagues will be taking the full allowances they are entitled to.
The leader said: "I've put a cabinet together and I could actually put seven deputy cabinet members together, I've only filled two of those posts, so there’s a saving there already. We've already made some savings, but again, that's a group decision."
A new report has now confirmed that Reform councillors will indeed be getting the standard pay, but that the pay of senior councillors will be around £100,000 less than last year.
