Coroner issues warning after woman's death at care home

A CORONER has issued a warning about a care home following the death of an elderly woman.

Maureen Powell had suffered a series of health problems in the months leading up to her death on August 18, 2024. This resulted in a “very long” stay in hospital, followed by a move to Red Oaks Care Community in Clipstone Road West, Mansfield. Ms Powell, who lived “a long and active life", had suffered a stroke and a fractured neck amongst other medical problems and was unable to make a full recovery.

An inquest into her death held at Nottingham Coroners’ Court concluded on June 10 that Ms Powell died from severe frailty, which is a natural disease. Her death was contributed to by a “large and serious” pressure ulcer. This “developed and worsened” whilst Ms Powell was a resident at the nursing home.
