Conman who once tried to buy Notts County will be deported

A CONMAN who tried to buy Notts County under an assumed name will be expelled from the UK after more than two decades of attempting to avoid deportation.

Fraudster Alick Kapikanya, who had been part of a group hoping to seal a £5 million deal for the club in 2019, will be forcibly sent back to his native Zambia after losing a 25 yearlong fight against deportation.

Kapikanya had been calling himself “Alex May” during negotiations with former Magpies owner Alan Hardy, but the deal fell apart in July 2019 after his identity and previous crimes were revealed.

The scam artist had been jailed for six years at Manchester Crown Court in 2014 for leading a gang that stole the identities of elderly people across Greater Manchester and the north west in an elaborate £3.5 million mortgage ruse.

The court heard the group secretly seized ownership of their houses and then repeatedly remortgaged them.
