Confident of 'very positive' news on congestion plans

THE future of plans to slash congestion at key county junctions and roundabouts has been described as "very positive” despite years of delay and a £26 million funding shortfall.

Confident of 'very positive' news on congestion plans

The scheme to upgrade the A614/ A6097 corridor, running from north Nottinghamshire down to East Bridgford, was announced in 2019 and has been described as "shovel ready" for years.

The expensive project has been plagued by funding uncertainty since Labour won last year's general election. Money was pledged under the previous Conservative government.

Although a recent announcement suggested progress could soon be made, East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) confirmed it was still waiting for the Government to approve £26.5 million for the plans.

But East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward, who leads the EMCCA, is confident the Government will approve the money. Work on Ollerton Roundabout would mean new lanes created on the busiest approaches, as well as new pedestrian crossings and a speed limit reduction.
