City councillors told accepting Labour intervention is 'mandatory'

LABOUR says it is "mandatory" for its Nottingham councillors to work with a party improvement team after some said they felt "dictated" to.

New details have been seen by the Post on the role that Labour Party officials are playing in improving the city council.

The Labour Party established a Campaign Improvement Board (CIB) for Nottingham in February. The national Labour Party's involvement in the Labour group that runs Nottingham City Council has increased since the authority's effective declaration of bankruptcy in November 2023.

This intervention has continued after Labour came into power nationally following last year's general election. In the most recent intervention, the CIB was being sent into the city council as part of what Labour says is its ambition to "rebuild" the authority.

The Post has now seen a document detailing exactly what the CIB will have the power to do while in Nottingham.
