Cash plea to help ease the pain of boy's trips to hospital

Harrison Breckell-Carter has to make regular visits to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London

- By SOPHIE BUSCIMESE

THE family of a five-year-old boy with a rare condition affecting his spine, heart and lungs have issued a plea for donations to acquire a specialist car seat to make his regular 260-mile round trip to the hospital less painful for him.

Harrison Breckell-Carter, from Ilkeston, was diagnosed with a genetic mutation called FLNC, which is thought to affect just 15 people in the world.

It means he has developed a dramatic curve in his spine, so his shoulders and bottom are no longer in line. His current high street brand car seat is making the six-hour round trip from his home to London's Great Ormond Street Hospital so painful and distressing he frequently vomits.

It also does not provide the support he needs for his up to four monthly trips to the hospital, with his shoulders slipping out of the harness.
