RESIDENTS have welcomed a £50,000 investment on an area of the city that was used to host an unauthorised party and has been “left in a terrible state”.

£50k investment to improve tram bridge area welcomed

At the start of November Nottingham City Council revealed it would be spending the sum to improve the area in and around Sussex Street.

Improvements will include more planting, enhanced landscaping, and better lighting under the tram bridge.

It comes after a large party took place under the tram bridge in September, and residents living in nearby Cliff Road said they had been “plagued” by problems for years.

A large crowd gathered for the “block party” at the skate park next to Nottingham College and the City of Caves.

Matthew Weston, 19, who lives in Cliff Road with his family, said the block party had caused a significant nuisance, with attendees using the street to park their cars despite it being a resident permit zone.

He said they had also witnessed “youths running down the road with knives”, while another occasion saw a police officer make an arrest in their back garden.
