£10m 'waste of money' to revamp high street

CASH COULD BE BETTER SPENT ELSEWHERE, SAY TRADERS
THE £10m "facelift" of a town's high street has been branded a "waste of money" by its residents.
Erewash Borough Council has announced last week that Long Eaton's High Street will be transformed with money from the Government's new Local Regeneration Fund. Designs have been revealed which show the High Street would be entirely pedestrianised, with no more bays for Blue Badge holders available, while more benches and greenery will be installed.
Richard Ledger, chair of the Long Eaton Town Deal Board, named the scheme a "once-in-a-lifetime boost", saying the board was "determined to get things absolutely right".
