PEOPLE across North Devon have marked 80 years since Victory in Europe (VE) Day.

Memories and events mark VE Day 80th anniversary

Young and old gathered at Barnstaple's Rock Park on May 8 for a solemn and heartfelt ceremony commemorating the end of the Second World War in Europe.

The ceremony, held at the Barnstaple flag pole, opened with a welcome from mayor Cllr Janet Coates and featured performances from bagpiper Mark Shortt and the Albert Hall Team on bugle. A series of tributes and reflections followed, including a reading by Reverend Dr William, and speeches by MP Ian Roome, the Royal British Legion and Deputy Lord Lieutenant Mark Parkhouse.

The service drew residents of all ages, with local school pupils attending alongside veterans, dignitaries and members of the public who came to pay their respects.
