Inventive challenge puts pupils to the test

STUDENTS at The Ilfracombe Academy were put to the test in an inventive STEM challenge that saw them designing and constructing water carriers as part of a collaborative event with local technology manufacturer TDK Lambda.

Held this term, the interactive session invited Year 9 pupils to build their own devices and compete in a friendly contest to transport the most water without spilling any.

The challenge aimed to bring core engineering principles to life while reinforcing key skills such as team-work, adaptability and problem-solving - all essential for thriving in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) careers.
