Panel finds 30 minerals critical to India

An expert committee set up by the Centre has identified 30 minerals as critical to India, including lithium and vanadium which are largely used in the manufacturing of batteries.

New Delhi: Critial mineral refer those minerals which are at the risk of supply shortage and and their shortage may have a larger impact on the economy compared to that of other raw materials.

The report comes at a time when the Centre is working on a policy on critical minerals.

Some of the key critical minerals identified by the panel including Antimony, Beryllium, Cadmium, Cobalt, Copper, Indium, Nickel, Platinum, Palladium, Silicon, Strontium.

Based on this report, Centre is expected to take steps to reduce import dependence for these minerals. India has looking to lower the dependence on imports as a large part of the supply of these minerals come from China.
