Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) is looking to borrow from its electric vehicle (EV) playbook to strengthen its foray into the electric bus market by acquiring commercial vehicle maker SML Isuzu Ltd.

Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) is looking to borrow from its electric vehicle (EV) playbook to strengthen its foray into the electric bus market by acquiring commercial vehicle maker SML Isuzu Ltd. The Chandigarh-headquartered truck and bus manufacturer introduced Hiroi.ev platform to develop electric buses in January at the Bharat Mobility Expo.
The new e-bus portfolio was slated to be launched between April and June 2025. "SML is in advanced stages of developing its electric bus. We believe the expertise we have through presence in multiple EV segments strengthens the proposition and improves costs," said Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director and chief executive officer, auto and farm sector, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, at a briefing on Monday.
