Fragile recovery Weak May reading shows uneven rebound in industrial activity.
India's industrial production grew 1.2% in May, its slowest pace in nine months, as manufacturing momentum weakened and mining and electricity output slipped into contraction, data released by the ministry of statistics and programme implementation on Monday showed. The muted uptick stands in stark contrast to the 6.3% expansion recorded in May last year, highlighting persistent strains across core sectors of the economy. The ministry revised April's growth figure to 2.6%, which still outpaces the May figure.
