Govt issues advisory to tech cos for regulating deepfakes

ndia's ministry of electronics and information technology on Tuesday issued an advisory on regulating artificial intelligence (AI)-generated content, commonly known as deepfakes, for all technology companies operating in India.

Following meetings with tech companies on 22-23 November, Union IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and minister of state for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar issued the advisory. The move is in response to a series of deepfake incidents targeting prominent actors and politicians on social media platforms.
