I serve in the Indian Army, have three children. I have not made a will yet. Posted in a remote, sensitive area, I want to know if the law offers any special provisions for soldiers like me. —Name withheld on request

How can soldiers on active duty create a will under Indian law?

A will is a document by means of which a testator, the individual preparing the will, declares his wishes on division and distribution of his estate after death. Wills are divided into privileged and unprivileged wills. Unprivileged will is prepared by ordinary persons and requires signature of the testator and attestation by two witnesses. The Indian Succession Act, 1925, also recognises that some professions face special situations and provides for Privileged Wills.
