ABB Has Also Piloted Systems Where Robots Respond To Natural Language Commands

- Leslie D'Monte

Robotics is transforming multiple sectors in India, particularly the automotive industry, fueled by advancements in artificial intelligence, generative AI, mechatronics, vision, and mobility, according to Sami Atiya, president of robotics and discrete automation at ABB Ltd.

Robots of the Switzerland-based electrification and automation company have painted about 65% of the cars manufactured in India, he said, adding that robotics is now capable of handling more complex tasks.

"In automotive, robots operate in structured settings. But using AI and vision, robots can now handle unpredictable tasks—like sorting and moving parcels of varying shapes and sizes in logistics centers, which has helped us move into construction, warehouses, logistics, pharma, and even agriculture," Atiya told Mint in an interview during his recent visit to India.

Further, since GenAI enhances the usability of robots, ABB has also piloted systems where robots respond to natural language commands.

Investors expect AI use to soar. That's not happening

An uncertain outlook for interest rates. Businesses may be holding off on investment until the fog clears. In addition, history suggests that technology tends to spread in fits and starts. Consider use of the computer within American households, where the speed of adoption slowed in the late 1980s. This was a mere blip before the 1990s, when they invaded American homes.

Can I claim TDS refund despite missing return filing deadline?

I am an NRI living in Dubai and have investments in Indian listed stocks. One of the companies I invested in, did a buyback in March, on which Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) was deducted. At that time, I was advised by a friend that I could claim a refund of TDS at the time of filing my tax return due to the benefits of the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA).
