Finance ministry notifies merger of RRBs in 11 states to improve efficiency, cut costs
The department of financial services has notified the merger of 26 regional rural banks (RRBs) to achieve the goal of "one state, one RRB" in the fourth phase of consolidation for such lenders.
Considering the improvement in the efficiency of RRBs after mergers in the past, the ministry of finance rolled out an amalgamation plan in November 2024 for stakeholder consultation. This phase of consolidation of RRBs across 10 states and one Union territory is also aimed at improvement in scale efficiency and cost rationalization.
