Stalin Demands 30-Year Status Quo on Delimitation

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday intensified pressure on the Central government, advocating for the 1971 Census to serve as the basis for parliamentary constituency delimitation for the next 30 years, starting in 2026. He also proposed the formation of a Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising southern states to collectively push for these demands.

Addressing an all-party meeting on delimitation, which included Opposition party AIADMK among others, Stalin put forth a resolution stating that any increase in parliamentary seats should be based on the 1971 Census and should be accompanied by an appropriate constitutional amendment.
