SC GRANTS ASARAM INTERIM BAIL ON HEALTH GROUNDS

The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to jailed self-styled godman Asaram in a 2013 rape case, citing his advanced age and deteriorating health.

A bench comprising Justices M M Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal allowed the 86-year-old to seek treatment outside prison but imposed strict conditions to ensure compliance. Observing the medical records and periodic treatments Asaram had received outside prison, the court ruled, “We deem it fit to grant bail to the petitioner on medical grounds till March 31, 2025, subject to the condition that he shall not meet his followers in a group.” The court, however, clarified that the decision was made solely on medical grounds, refusing to entertain arguments related
