PM to visit Manipur on Sept 13, to launch projects worth Rs 8,500 cr

Over two years after ethnic strife broke out in Manipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the state on September 13 to launch and inaugurate projects worth Rs 8,500 crore, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The visit comes at a time when the northeastern state continues to grapple with the aftermath of violence that began in May 2023 between Kuki and Meitei communities, leaving more than 260 dead and displacing thousands.
Speculation had been rife in recent days about Modi combining his visit to neighbouring Mizoram with a stop in Manipur. However, clarity emerged on Thursday evening when a large billboard was unveiled at Imphal's Keisampat Junction, near the BJP's state headquarters, announcing the Prime Minister's engagements at Peace Ground and Kangla Fort.
More such billboards are expected in the run-up to the visit.
