Opposition MPs push for impeachment of HC judge over controversial remarks

NEW DELHI: Opposition parties have initiated the process of submitting a notice for an impeachment motion against Allahabad High Court judge Justice Shekhar Yadav.

The move follows his controversial remarks made during a recent event organised by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), which sparked outrage and accusations of undermining judicial impartiality.

Sources revealed that 38 signatures have already been collected for the impeachment notice, with efforts underway to secure the required 50 signatures from Rajya Sabha members.

The process was delayed on Wednesday as the Upper House adjourned early, leaving many MPs unavailable.

Opposition leaders are confident that the necessary signatures will be gathered by Thursday, paving the way for the notice to be submitted during the ongoing winter session of Parliament.

Congress MP Vivek Tankha confirmed the development, stating, "This is a serious matter. We will give a notice for impeachment in this session of Parliament itself."
