MADHYA PRADESH TRANSFORMATIVE INTERLINKAGES
Millennium Post Delhi
|New Delhi 22December2024
Under the inspiring leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Dr. Mohan Yadav, the launch of Ken-Betwa and Modified Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal river-linking projects fulfills former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's grand vision of transforming drought-prone regions with sustainable irrigation and drinking water facilities, alongside heralding economic growth for Bundelkhand, Malwa, and Chambal, among others
-

Almost two decades ago, Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee had envisioned the KenBetwa Link Project as a transformative force for development of Centre-North India. That dreamy vision is on the steady course of its realisation.
As the nation will celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of the former Indian prime minister on December 25, it is only a fitting tribute that incumbent PM Narendra Modi is slated to lay the foundation stone of the KenBetwa project in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh on the same day. Another monumental initiative, the Modified Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project, for which Memorandum of Agreement was signed on December 17 between Chief Ministers of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the Ministry of Jal Shakti for preparing the DPR, is also in line with Vajpayee’s vision.
The coincidence couldn’t have been more striking that these wonderful river link initiatives are materialising in and around Madhya Pradesh—known as the maaika (a married woman’s birthplace) of rivers! The state is witnessing a historic transformation under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The two monumental water management initiatives are set to redefine the economic, agricultural, and environmental future of the state.
KEN-BETWA LINK: A MILESTONE IN WATER SECURITY
The Ken-Betwa Link National Project (KBLP), the first river interlinking project under the National Perspective Plan for Water Resources Development, marks a milestone in India’s water management history. Conceived during the tenure of Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, this ambitious project has been brought to fruition under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It involves transferring 2,853 million cubic metres (MCM) of water annually from the Ken River in Madhya Pradesh to the Betwa River in Uttar Pradesh through a 221-kilometer link canal.
