India-US look to deepen tech collaboration

Reaffirming the strength of the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a wide ranging, high-stakes discussion at the White House spanning artificial intelligence, innovation, next-generation technology, energy security, defence, trade and investment figured prominently.

President Trump and Prime Minister Modi launched a new initiative -- the “U.S.-India COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) for the 21st Century” – to drive transformative change across key pillars of cooperation.

Under this initiative, they committed to a results-driven agenda with initial outcomes this year to demonstrate the level of trust for a mutually beneficial partnership.

Artificial intelligence, semiconductors, data centres, and quantum - the essential building blocks shaping an intelligent, new-age world - were in focus during the bilateral talks.

President Trump welcomed PM Modi with a warm hug before they sat down for talks. The meeting, which followed PM Modi’s pit stop in France, came just hours after President Trump announced a new reciprocal tariff policy targeting all US trading partners, including India.

India and the US pledged to enhance collaboration in areas of critical and emerging technologies and announced the launch of the US-India Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technology (TRUST) initiative.
