The Finance Ministry's latest annual report has revealed that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) financed seven projects in India with a total budget of approximately $750 million in the 2023-24 financial year. The disclosure comes amidst an ongoing political controversy regarding USAID's alleged role in influencing Indian elections.
"Currently, seven projects worth a total budget of $750 million (approx.) are being implemented by USAID in partnership with the Government of India," the Finance Ministry report stated.
According to the report, USAID allocated $97 million (approximately Rs 825 crore) for these projects in the financial year 2023-24. The Department of Economic Affairs, which oversees bilateral funding arrangements, provided details of the projects funded during this period.
