Extending all possible help: India on nurse facing death sentence

NEW DELHI: India on Tuesday announced that it is providing all possible assistance to explore options to save Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse from Kerala, who is facing a death sentence in Yemen.

Nimisha Priya, a 36-year-old native of Kollengode in Kerala's Palakkad district, has been handed capital punishment for allegedly murdering a Yemeni citizen, Talal Abdo Mahdi, in 2017. Her case has drawn significant attention in India, with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirming its efforts to assist her.
"We are aware of the sentencing of Nimisha Priya in Yemen. We understand that her family is exploring relevant options," said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. "The government is extending all possible help in the matter," he added while responding to media queries.
